AN investigation has been launched after a inmate died in a North-East prison on Monday afternoon.
Ashley Done, 21, was serving time at Deerbolt Young Offenders' Institution in Startforth, near Barnard Castle, County Durham.
He had been complaining to prison staff of dizziness before he collapsed and fell into unconsciousness.
The emergency services were called and staff and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man but he was pronounced dead at about 2.15pm.
Mr Done, who was from the York area, was in the process of serving a two-and-a-half year sentence for drugs offences.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: "As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.
"We believe he died from natural causes."
