PATCHES of sheet ice caused several minor accidents on a North-East road this morning.
The A66 between Darlington and Stockton saw a number of bumps and shunts as drivers struggled to cope with the icy conditions, although nobody was seriously injured.
Gritters were deployed to treat the road, which remained open throughout the morning.
Police said the road is now passable, but urged drivers to take care in the conditions.
In a separate incident, a car overturned on the A181 at High Shincliffe, near Durham, at about 8.40am this mroning.
The female driver was rescued from the vehicle by the police. She was not injured.
The fire and rescue service made the vehicle safe and the road remained open.
