A HOSPITAL has unveiled a piece of equipment to make children’s visits to hospital a little bit more bearable.
The Paediatric Burns Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, has installed a 3D display system to keep youngsters’ minds off the treatment they are going through.
Mounted on the ceiling above their bed, the system, developed by Middlesbrough-based Amazing Interactives, shows moving animations, such as bubbles or vivid cartoon characters, which children watch using 3D glasses.
Hospital staff hope the system will help keep young patients distracted while the medics do their work.
Among those attending yesterday’s launch were stars from Newcastle Theatre Royal panto Cinderella, who have provided the voiceover for many of the scenes screened on the system.
