Inquest opened into Hartburn pensioner found dead in home


AN inquest into the death of a pensioner found strangled in her burnt-out home has been opened and adjourned this morning.

Deputy Coroner Tony Eastwood opened the inquest into the death of Patricia Thompson at the register office of Middlesbrough.

He adjourned proceedings until the conclusion of a crown court case.

The 85-year-old was found dead in her home in Hartburn at about 11.30pm, on September 5. Firefighters tackled a blaze at the property and found Mrs Thompson's body in the bedroom.

Steven James Hodgson, 33, of Coulthard Drive, South Bank, Middlesbrough, will appear at Teesside Crown Court on Friday, charged with murder
