A VAN driver suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision on a country road in County Durham yesterday(Friday).
The 30-year-old man from Glasgow was at the wheel of Renault van which collided with a lorry on the A181, near the Three Horse Shoes pub at Running Waters, east of Durham.
He was cut free from the wreckage of the vehicle by firefighters, before he was taken by ambulance to Durham's University Hospital of North Durham, suffering extensive injuries.
The lorry driver, a 38-year-old man from Sunderland, was also taken to the hospital suffering shock.
Police said a stretch of the A181 was closed between Silent Bank and Thornley for around three hours after the accident, which took place at 11.50am.
