HUGE portraits of 100 North-East people will be projected onto the historic buildings of a city’s Market Place, as part of a lights festival.
Heart of the City – A Place for the People, will take place in Durham City during next month’s Lumiere extravaganza.
The artwork, announced yesterday, will also feature a commissioned soundtrack.
Mark Major, director of leading lighting architects Speirs and Major Associates, which have been commissioned to create the temporary installation, said it was an exciting project.
The announcement comes as Durham City today submits its outline bid to be named UK City of Culture for 2013 and follows last year’s Enlightenment festival.
Lumiere will take place between November 12 and 15. Residents can nominate people who they think reflect the character of Durham City to have their image projected for A Place for the People.
Anyone wanting to take part is asked to call 0207- 650-7611 or email holly.race@artichoke.uk.com
