A TEENAGER has taken just 12 days to walk from the Irish Sea to the North Sea - raising £700 for Help for Heroes.

Edward Wright, 14, from Bedale, clocked up 192 miles on the Coast to Coast Walk between St Bees in West Cumbria and Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire.

The former Aysgarth School pupil, set himself the challenge to keep himself occupied during the summer holidays and decided to raise money for the charity, which helps injured and retired servicemen and women.

His mother Jo Wright said: "Supporting Help for Heroes was an obvious choice as the family has a military background and because the cause is very much in the spotlight right now."

Edward's father is a serving officer in the former Green Howard's regiment and his mother retired from the armed forces when he was born.

Despite some rather unseasonal weather, which included horizontal rain and hail stones, Edward - who carried camping kit with him on the whole journey - made good time and arrived at Robin Hood's Bay on Thursday.
