THE region’s biggest dog show will attempt to help stop the extinction of vulnerable native breeds at its annual event, organisers say.
Exhibitors will travel from across the UK to attend Darlington Dog Show Society’s 41st Annual Championship Dog Show at Newby Hall, near Ripon, from September 18 to 20.
For the second year, the show will have a marquee championing British and Irish native vulnerable breeds.
Every Kennel Club registered breed of pedigree will be on show over the three-day event, which is a qualifier for Crufts 2010.
Hound, terrier and utility breeds will be shown on Friday, while Saturday will feature working and pastoral breeds, and on Sunday prizes will be awarded to gundog and toy breeds as well as best in show, best puppy and best veteran.
Sarah Allsopp, vicechairwoman of the show, said: “The purpose (of the native breeds marquee) is to highlight the plight of these dogs that are disappearing.”
The show is open from 9.30am to 5.30pm daily.
Parking is £10 a car, a day.
■ The Northern Echo is giving away two free car park passes for each day of the show. To enter, tell us where Darlington Dog Show Society’s 41st Annual Championship Dog Show will be held this year.
Answers, along with name, address and a contact telephone number, should be sent on a postcard to Lauren Pyrah, The Northern Echo, PO Box 14, Priestgate, Darlington, DL1 1NF.
The closing date is September 9.
