Bizarre Facebook lying down game grips North-East

A BIZARRE online challenge game has prompted thousands of people from across the North-East to lie down in the strangest locations.

Participants in the internet craze have to photograph themselves face down in the oddest places they can think of.

The group on the social networking site Facebook, has footage of hundreds of people flat-out in the street, and in parks, pubs, supermarkets and airports.

Members have even recorded themselves at landmarks including York Minster, and the Tyne Bridge.

The game is open to Facebook users in the Newcastle group, which covers the whole of the North-East, and has attracted more than 1,500 members in less than two weeks.

Geordie doormen Scott Wood and Wayne Pyle founded the Lying Down Game after returning from holiday last month.

"I started doing it when I was on a lads holiday in Magaluf," said Mr Wood, 34.

"I thought lying on the floor would be a funnier way to pose for my holiday snaps.

"When I got home we uploaded them to Facebook, and it took off from there.

"We want people to find the most random places they can - the weirder the better. A couple of people suggested climbing the Angel of the North to do it, but we thought that was a bit much. Obviously we don't want people to hurt themselves.

"People have really taken to it, and it's a great laugh. You get a kick out of the funny looks you get when you're lying face down in the street.

"We've had photos from all over the North-East, but weve even had some from holidays in places like Ibiza and California.

"There's so much misery around these days, with the recession and everything. This is an excuse to have a joke and do something silly for the sake of it."
