A SUSPECTED white supremacist from the North-East has appeared in court charged with terror offences.

Former lorry driver and pub DJ Ian Davison, 41, was arrested last week by police investigating alleged extreme right-wing activity.

Mr Davison, of Myrtle Grove, Burnopfield, County Durham, was charged with offences under Section Five of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He stands accused of acquiring a quantity of the toxin ricin, explosives manuals, disseminating them to others and encouraging others to commit acts of terrorism.

Mr Davison also faces two charges of possessing a record containing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

Durham Police said one of those charges related to a manual containing information and instructions on the use or production of firearms, explosives and chemicals.

The other charge relates to information and instructions on the use or production of explosive substances and related items.

He is accused of possession of a chemical weapon, namely a quantity of ricin, contrary to section two of the Chemical Weapons Act.

Mr Davison appeared before City of Westminster Magistrates Court yesterday wearing a grey sweat shirt for the seven-minute hearing.

No application for bail was made and he was remanded into custody until his next court appearance next Friday.

Earlier this week Mr Davison’s son, Nicky Davison, 18, of Grampian Way, Annfield Plain, County Durham, appeared before the same court charged with an offence under section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000, relating to the collection, making, or the possession of information which could be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

Magistrates heard police found a copy of a weapons manual known as “The Poor Man’s James Bond” while searching Nicky Davison’s family home.

He was released on conditional bail and told to return to the court on June 22.

The father and son were arrested on Tuesday last week when anti-terror police raided two addresses in County Durham.

Officers have searched both of their homes and computer equipment has been seized.
