POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an accident that saw three pedestrians knocked over on a busy town centre road.

Three teenagers were taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough after suffering injuries in the accident at about 6.50pm on Friday.

The trio were crossing at the lights at the junction of Borough Road and Marton Road when they were hit by a Citroen Saxo car.

The woman driver was unhurt, but one of the teenagers suffered a suspected fracture to their left leg, while the other two suffered shock and bruising.

All three were detained in hospital, but only the most seriously hurt was still in hospital at the weekend. None of their injuries were life threatening.

Sergeant Dave Allen, of Cleveland's Road Policing Unit, said: "We are looking for anybody who may have seen the collision at that particular time.

"It's a busy road and there may have been a lot of people around. We would like those people to come forward with any information they have about what happened."

The driver was travelling along Marton Road, in the direction of Longlands, and the pedestrians were walking along Borough Road, towards North Ormesby, when it happened.

Anyone with information should call Pc Tina Lackenby at the Road Policing Unit on 01642-301552.
