TIME is running out to enter a historic dance festival which has added new classes this year.

Organisers of Darlington Dance Festival have received lots of entries from dancers outside the town but are looking for more entrants from schools and individuals in Darlington.

The festival, which was added to the Darlington Festival for Performing Arts in 1935, has updated its program this year to include hip-hop and other contemporary dance styles.

Individual categories include ballet, freestyle, song and dance, tap, modern, and character.

There are group and dual events for classical, cabaret with and without song and rock and roll.

Dual classes also include tap, modern, and song and dance.

Fees start at £4 per class for individual events and there are classes for dancers aged five-years-old to adult.

The event takes place on Sunday, March 8, from 9am to 5.30pm, at Carmel RC College, The Headlands, in Darlington.

Paula McIntyre, who is organising the dance section of the festival, said: “We have got quite a few entries from outside the town but not that many from Darlington.

“It is for everyone to come and enjoy the dancing and have a good day out. There will be catering and a raffle and we are encouraging people to come along and watch.

“It is the last call for talented dancers in the area to enter.”
