New home is signed, sealed and delivered

A BLIND dog which captured the hearts of people across the region has been found a new home.

Stevie Wonder, a twoyear- old lurcher, was being cared for at Deerness Kennels, in Langley Moor, near Durham City, after being found by dog wardens wandering the streets.

An appeal was made in The Northern Echo to try to find Stevie a home for Christmas.

It was hoped new owners could be found who would not be put off by his disability and who, if possible, owned a dog which could act as a guide for him. Following the appeal, the kennels received a number of inquiries from interested potential owners.

A suitable home has now been found and Stevie is reported to be settling in well.

Val Allan, a volunteer at the kennels, said: “Stevie now has a loving home where there is another dog, and they are great friends.

“I’m so glad because I was going to the kennels every day to see him, it just broke my heart, it was so upsetting.

“I’m really grateful to The Northern Echo for helping find him a home.”
