A MAN will face a painful Christmas after being pounced on in an unprovoked attack.
At about midnight on Tuesday, the 49-year-old Stockton man was walking along Leven Road in Norton, close to the junction with Greta Road, when he was attacked from behind by a number of people.
The victim sustained serious facial injuries and required treatment at University Hospital of North Tees.
Up to six people are believed to have been involved in the assault and police believe that, due to its location, members of the public may have witnessed the incident.
Pc Ross Price, of Stockton Police, said: "This incident appears to be an unprovoked assault, which has resulted in significant injuries. We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened." Anyone with information should call Pc Price on 01642-302226 or alternatively Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
