POWER has been restored to all 15,000 homes which were left without electricity in below freezing temperatures on Thursday after snow collapsed power lines.

Homes in North Yorkshire and Teesside were affected, with Redcar and Easington amongst the worst hit, along with homes in Ingleby Barwick, Teesside, Great Ayton and Scarborough.

Power company CE Electric managed to get all supplies restored just before noon yesterday(fri).

By 7.30pm on Thursday night, power had been restored to all but 550 customers. A total of 27 homes were still without power at dawn, as electricity could not be restored safely to these properties in the dark.

The electricity company had to use a helicopter to reconnect some supplies.

David Gill, head of customer service said: "Our staff have worked extremely hard, often battling against atrocious conditions and it is due to their skill and dedication that we were able to restore the final supply at 11.36 this morning.

"We would like to thank our customers for their patience, support and understanding.”
