Better than bog-standard

A CHAMPION plumber has been honoured at his former college.

Christopher Lonsdale, from Bishop Auckland, was crowned best plumber at the UK finals of the Skill Plumb awards, held earlier this month.

Yesterday, he returned to New College, Durham, where former teachers and Durham City MP Roberta Blackman-Woods congratulated him on his success.

Mr Lonsdale, 21, studied at the college for four years, before completing his course this summer. He works for B’Warm.

Mr Lonsdale’s visit coincided with the launch of Colleges Week, a celebration of the role of colleges in communities and students. Mrs Blackman-Woods said: “New College is a fantastic institution and its new facilities really are state-ofthe- art. Chris Lonsdale did fantastically well to be given this award for best plumber in the country and his success is testament to his own dedication and hard work and New College where he studied.”
