THREE teenagers have been arrested in connection with an attack on a bus that left a woman and a baby with injuries.

The 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds have been questioned about the incident last Wednesday afternoon, when a cricket ball was thrown through the window of a buss on Cass House Road, in Hemlington, Middlesbrough.

A side window of the bus was smashed, showering passengers with glass and causing a minor cut to a baby's hand.

However, the ball then hit Dorothy Simpson on the head, leaving her with two black eyes and an injury to her temple.

The 74-year-old, of Coulby Newham, in the town, said she was just grateful that the ball had not hit the baby.

She said: "I didn't know what had happened. I just felt a terrible pain to my head and heard the mother and baby screaming.

"Thankfully, the baby was not seriously injured."

Detective Constable Nick See said: "This was an act of sheer mindless vandalism, and a great danger to everyone using that road.

"The consequences could have been far more serious."

The teenagers were arrested on Saturday morning and have now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Detective Sergeant John Wrintmore, of Middlesbrough CID, on 01642-303126 or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
