A WOMAN has told of the moment when a lit firework was thrown into her bedroom.
The ten-inch-long yellow banger landed feet from Amanda Adamson, who was tucked up in bed at the time.
Miss Adamson said: "There were sparks flying everywhere. I screamed.
"I thought 'I've got two seconds to decide what to do to'.
"I thought 'Could I jump behind the bed?'
"But I screamed, pulled the duvet over my head and hunched down in the bed.
"There was a massive explosion and flash of light.
"If it had gone off in another place or had been a rocket it could have been very serious."
The incident happened at Miss Adamson's bungalow, on The Brooms, in Ouston, County Durham, shortly before 7pm last night.
It comes as police and firefighters warn of the dangers of fireworks in the run up to Bonfire Night.
Miss Adamson, 35, was resting in bed and her partner, Karl Coverdale, was watching television in another room.
A shocked Miss Adamson told The Northern Echo: "I was lying peacefully when I heard a really loud hissing noise.
"I thought: 'That's a firework - somebody's thrown a firework through my window'."
Miss Adamson was not injured, but her bedroom carpet was scorched.
She said: "I'm trying to keep calm. But I'm physically shaking. I feel like I'm in shock."
Miss Adamson urged anyone on her estate who has similar problems to report them, so something can be done.
She said: "We shouldn't have to live in terror because some amoeba wants to get his kicks."
Durham Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information should call the police on 0345-60-60-365 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
