ROBBERS struck in a supermarket car park for a second time in a matter of weeks.

A man was using the cash point machine outside Asda in South Bank at about 3.15pm on Friday when he was approached by two males - one wielding a knife.

One of the robbers was on a BMX bike and the other was on foot. The robber on foot produced a small knife and demanded the money the victim had taken from the machine.

When the 38-year-old man refused to hand it over, he received a small wound to his hand.

Both youths were described as scruffy and in their late teens or early 20s.

Two youths were arrested close to the scene afterwards and are now helping police with their enquiries.

However, it was very busy in the supermarket and in the vicinity of the cash machine, which is located near the entrance, so officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

They are particularly keen to speak to a woman who spoke to a community warden at the scene, but who did not want to give her details.

The victim was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment and was discharged later. He was very shaken by the ordeal.

At the end of September, a 50-year-old woman was attacked by three robbers as she loaded her car with groceries in the Asda car park.

She was standing by her car at about 10pm, when the three youths ran up to her and stole her handbag, kicking her in the stomach, before running off.

Anyone with information about either incident should call Detective Sergeant Paul Husband at Redcar and Cleveland Police's serious crime unit on 01642-302626.
