FOUR members of Sir Bobby Robson’s family took part in the Great North Run to raise money for his cancer charity.

The former England manager’s son, Mark Robson, and partner Kim Jennings along with his nephew, James Robson, and wife Clair, all put on their trainers for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Mark Robson said: “We all wanted to support dad and this seemed like a good way for us to do it together.”

The four hope to have raised almost £8,000.

Television commentator Jim Rosenthal also ran the 13.1 miles for the cause.

Sir Bobby, who has cancer, said: “I am thrilled that my friends and family are helping to raise money for the foundation through the Great North Run.

“I know there are many others doing the same and I am very grateful for their exceptional efforts and determination to complete the 13 miles.

“My family are very conscious of the foundation and what we are trying to achieve, and I know they are thrilled to be making their own contribution.”

The foundation has raised enough money to set up a cancer research centre in Newcastle. It will open in January.
