PEOPLE who turned up for the Heritage Open Day at Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge were treated to a display of adrenaline-fuelled base jumping.

A team of specialists entertained visitors by jumping off the 160ft high landmark that spans the River Tees with parachutes.

The height of the bridge is just within the limit needed to successfully and safely base jump from.

The daredevils were unable to perform trial runs of their jump on Friday because of adverse weather conditions, but the weather on Saturday morning was more favourable.

For people of a less adventurous nature, the bridge opened its gates to allow them to explore the winding house and visitor centre and take a trip on the gondola.

Throughout the day, hundreds of people took the opportunity to explore the landmark.

I was one of the jumpers from UK Pro BASE who helped to organise this event. Thanks must be given to Able UK, Wiltern Engineering and Teeside Adventure and the Middlesbrough Council without which these jumps could not have happened.
