A BIKER died after hitting a tree branch blown onto the busy A66 near Scotch Corner.
The North East Air Ambulance was scrambled but the 42-year-old, from Sheffield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened at 5.20pm on Friday on the westbound carriageway, just west of Sedbury lay-by.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "A green and black Kawasaki motorcycle was in collision with a tree branch which had fallen into the road."
The road was closed for several hours whilst police carried out investigations. Any witnesses are urged to call 0845 60 60 247.
