Monkey magic at the Tan Hill

Arctic Monkeys Arctic Monkeys

FANS of the award-winning Arctic Monkeys were last night treated to an impromptu gig in the unlikely setting of a remote North Yorkshire pub.

The Tan Hill pub, near Richmond, became a meeting point for some of Britain's most exciting musical talent as more than 800 friends and fans of the Kendal-band British Sea Power gathered for the Sing Ye From the Hills Festival.

The weekend event culminated in an intimate jamming session shortly after midnight that left the audience hanging from the rafters with glee.

The Arctic's took to the stage alongside fellow Mercury Prize winners the Klaxons.

They were joined on the makeshift stage in the pub's barn by more than 25 hardcore fans in what landlady Tracy Daly described as a "total free-for-all".

The festival-goers then ended the experience watching fireworks outside what is the highest pub in Britain at 1,732ft.

Alex Turner and his bandmates were at the Tan Hill as part of celebrations for producer and fellow musician James Ford's stag night.
