Flying high after visit to airbase

A MEMBER of the European Parliament paid a flying visit to one of the region’s air bases to learn how the RAF teaches its pilots to fly.

Yorkshire MEP Godfrey Bloom visited RAF Lintonon- Ouse, near York, in his capacity as a member of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme.

Members of the scheme, which aims to help politicians understand the military, spend 22 days a year with one branch of the Armed Forces.

The highlight of Mr Bloom’s visit was a flight in a Tucano training aircraft.

Mr Bloom, whose father was a Spitfire pilot, said: “I wanted to come to Linton to see for myself how a Yorkshire station operated.

“This was like following in my father’s footsteps.”
