CHURCH organist Kath Jones has raised more than £650 - after completing a hymnbook marathon.

Kath Jones has been the organist at All Saints Church in East Cowton, near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, for the last 24 year.

"I was expecting a quiet day but in the end a lot of people came along and it turned into a great social sing-song,"

And on Saturday she completed a true "orgathon" when she played more than 600 hymns in one non-stop session.

Kath, who lives in Osmotherley, played all 596 hymns in Anglican Hymns Old and New as well as 14 more modern hymns in a musical marathon that last eight-and-a-half hours.

"I was expecting a quiet day but in the end a lot of people came along and it turned into a great social sing-song," said Kath.

"It was great fun and the money raised for church funds was way beyond my expectations."

Adding to the fun - and the funds - the church also staged a successful continental breakfast morning.

Kath, a former head teacher at Dodmire School in Darlington has also completed two ten-hour piano marathons in the past.
