A MAN found dead in a city centre died after a fall, police have revealed.

The body of the 30-year-old was found in a pool of blood down an alley in Newcastle city centre on Friday night DCI Mick Paterson, of Northumbria Police, is leading the investigation and said officers were called to the area close to the junction of Westgate Road and Collingwood Street shortly before 6pm on Saturday night.

He said: "Following the post mortem I am satisfied that the injuries from which this man died are consistent with a fall.

"An off duty police officer was at scene soon after the body was discovered and stayed until paramedics arrived."

Police said they would not be revealing the identity of the man until all family members had been informed.

The area is popular among revelers, with a number of pubs, clubs and upmarket bars nearby.
