Embryo research

9:59am Thursday 15th May 2008

WHAT a lot of sense Peter Mullen talks. I always agree with him, especially when he wrote about the moral outrage of embryo research (Echo, May 6).

It's amazing that an embryo is a baby if it's wanted, yet if unwanted it's an embryo and okay to do what you like with it. What happened to the fifth commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Kill", or any of the commandments come to that?

They are not taught in school anymore. No wonder our country is in a mess as God and Christian morality are driven out.

I often think that at least some of the millions of babies aborted over the years could have turned out to be great world leaders.

THE issue of hybrid embryo research is undoubtedly complex, but Peter Mullen's column (Echo, May 6) seems to defy logic.

Initially, he tells us that the Bill to create human-animal hybrid embryo is going through Parliament at the moment. Further into his column he claims that no human has ever been cured of a disease using human embryos.

If the legislation is only just progressing through Parliament, why should he expect that humans have been cured of disease using these techniques?
