JASON Plato will be the 'daddy' in more ways than one when the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship rolls into Donington Park this weekend.

Having won two out of three races there last year, North-East raised Plato is keen to repeat that success and pilot the SEAT Leon TDI to the first diesel-powered win in the 50-year history of the BTCC.

But Plato's already the daddy at home, as wife Sophie gave birth earlier this week to their first child - a healthy and very happy 6lb 8oz daughter called Alena.

Darren Turner is ahead of his SEAT Sport UK team-mate in the BTCC Drivers' table at the moment, having finished second, third, fourth and fifth in his four race finishes this season. He qualified on the front row at Donington last year and hopes the extra torque of the turbodiesel will propel him to another front row starting position this weekend.

Donington's fast, flowing 1.96-mile National Circuit will also host two rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship.

Robert Lawson arrives at the Leicestershire track in the lead, but will have to continue his good form if he's to fend off the strong challenge from behind - most notably from Jonathan Adam, who finished first and second in the two Cupra races there last year.

If you can't get to Donington this Sunday, ITV4 will cover the races live between 12.30pm-5.30pm.

Hour-long highlights will then be broadcast on ITV4 on Monday(6.00pm-7.00pm), ITV1 on Tuesday (01.25am-02.20am), ITV4 on Saturday(4.45pm-5.45pm) and on Men & Motors on Friday, May 16 (5.05pm-6.05pm).
