GIVING the phrase hand-me-downs a new meaning, young fashion designers strutted the catwalk last night dressed in recycled fabrics and materials.

Make Your Mark in Fashion is a national competition, throwing down the gauntlet to young people aged 14 to 30, to design a new sustainable fashion range for existing businesses.

It was launched last night at Psyche, in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough.

Three chosen teams will have the chance to produce a range of fashion items for the On/Off in London Fashion Week, later this year.
