A MAN who sexually assaulted two young girls has been jailed.

As a teen, Mohammed Shobir Ahmed Chowdhury, now 30, would often visit an address also attended by his two young victims.

He would watch films alone with one victim, sitting the girl on his knee and sexually assaulting her.

The other victim described being led to a room where Chowdhury would abuse her.

Chowdhury, of Newminster Road, Newcastle, denied the charges against him but was found guilty of six counts of sexual assault at Newcastle Crown Court on October 3 last year.

Appearing at the same court yesterday Chowdhury was sentenced as a juvenile due to his age at offending.

He was jailed for three years and made to sign the sex offenders' register for life.

His first victim says the abuse she suffered at the hands of Chowdhury left her utterly unable to trust men.

In her victim impact statement, which was read aloud in court, she stated: “I hardly leave the house and just feel anxious all the time. I find I’m wary around blokes, for example if a taxi driver arrives with a man driving I feel uncomfortable and anxious.

“I struggled to form a relationship with my boyfriend; I had trust issues. I just don’t want this to ruin my life anymore.”

His victim speaks of a broken childhood. She said: “Although the crime happened in the early years of my life, it still has an ongoing impact on my life now.

“To me the offence ruined a lot of my childhood, teenage and early adulthood years. I don’t think I had the normal childhood any individual deserves.”

She says she feels vulnerable and intimidated every day and struggles to feel safe anywhere.

She has also been plagued with sleep deprivation which had a devastating effect on her university studies.

She said: “Since confiding in my family about the offences, I know they have suffered with ongoing and constant worrying, shock and also depression.”

The officer in charge of the case, Detective Inspector Rebecca Fenney said: “The abuse these women suffered in their childhood at the hands of Chowdhury has had a devastating impact on both their lives.

“Both speak of loneliness, struggling to trust – especially men, feeling afraid and unsafe in everyday situations.

But despite their fears, both found the courage to come forward and thanks to their bravery, their attacker has now been placed behind bars.

“I know no verdict or sentence can ever take away the pain of their childhood but I hope seeing him brought to justice will provide the survivors with some comfort.”
