7:52pm Sunday 21st October 2007

A SECOND man has died in a quad bike accident.

The farmer whose body was found in a field at his farm is believed to have fallen from a the bike.

The dead man was identified as Colin Furness, 68, of Cockerdale Farm, Oldstead, near Kilburn, in the shadow of Sutton Bank, North Yorkshire.

His body was discovered on Saturday evening and police investigators and detectives are examining his Yamaha quad bike, which was found at the scene.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Mr Furness's accident follows the death of a 32-year-old man, yet to be named, who was riding a quad bike on private land near the A177 at Thorpe Larches, between Sedgefield and Stockton, at noon on Saturday.

Sgt Brian Gibson, from Durham Police, said the man failed to negotiate a left-hand bend on a dirt track. He lost control and crashed into trees.

He was airlifted to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, but was pronounced dead later that day. Sgt Gibson said the man's family are still to be informed
