STAFF at a shop were threatened with an axe before robbers made off with £200 in cash.

The robbery happened at the B&S superstore in Front Street, Fencehouses, near Houghton-le-Spring on Friday, August 10.

A man and a woman entered the store at about 8.30pm and approached the till. The man is then thought to have threatened staff with an axe.

Around £200 cash concealed in a black box was stolen, before the suspects made off.

Police have now identified two individuals they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

They were in the store at the time of the offence and may be able to assist officers with their investigation.
