YOUNGSTERS have been helping to improve their community by restoring an old pinfold to create a garden for everyone to enjoy.
Joshua Kind, Philippa Kind, Hannah Horton and Lucy Denton all 12, with help from Lucy's younger brother Sam Denton, 10, are taking part in North Yorkshire Police's Lifestyle Challenge, which encourages children aged 10 to 17 to take on a project to benefit their community.
The group, from Crakehall, near Bedale, worked on the patch of land, historically used for keeping livestock, from 10am to 4.30pm on Thursday, weeding and pruning, and managed to clear a large area.
They also planted shrubs and flowers kindly donated by Simon Winstanley at Leyburn, Braithwaites at Leeming Bar and Tesco at Catterick Garrison.
Mum Rachel Denton said: "The youngsters worked cooperatively all day and showed great determination and team work."
They also held a bake sale on Sunday, August 19 to raise further funds to go towards the pinfold.
