How did the players fare in Sunderland's 3-0 win over Scunthorpe United?
SUNDERLAND (4-1-4-1):
6 McLaughlin: Claimed a long-range shot from Perch, but will not have many easier afternoons all season
6 Matthews: Defensively solid on the right of Sunderland’s back four, but picked up a second-half injury that forced him off
7 Loovens: Has looked at home from the very first minute of his Sunderland career and marshalled the back four extremely well
7 Baldwin: Always in control in the defensive third, and came close with a couple of decent efforts from corners
9 OVIEDO: Caused all sorts of problems rampaging down the left-hand side and set up his side’s opening two goals
8 Cattermole: Controlled the heart of midfield all afternoon and will be a huge asset if he remains beyond the end of the month
7 Gooch: Broke effectively down the right-hand side and set up Maguire’s goal with a well-worked one-two
7 Honeyman: Threatened whenever he broke into the penalty area and linked play effectively between midfield and attack
8 Maguire: Claimed his first Sunderland goal with a deft back-heel and ran himself into the ground to close down the Scunthorpe defence
7 Power: Opened his Black Cats account with a powerful header and already looks like an astute free signing
7 Maja: Made it three goals in three league games with an emphatic finish and is clearly revelling in his senior role
Subs:
6 James (for Matthews, 59): Slotted in neatly for the final half-hour as he made his maiden Sunderland appearance in the league
6 Mumba (for Maguire, 70): Continues to impress despite his tender years and saw plenty of the ball in the closing stages
O’Nien (for Honeyman, 83)
(not used): Ruiter (gk), Ozturk, Robson, Embleton.
SCUNTHORPE (4-4-2):
Watson 4; Clarke 3, Goode 4, Burgess 4, Butroid 3; Dales 4 (Humphrys 59, 5), Lund 5 (Ojo 65, 5), PERCH 6, Morris 4 (Colclough 78); Thomas 4, Novak 5.
Subs (not used): Flatt (gk), Horsfield, McArdle, Olomola.
Man Of The Match: BRYAN OVIEDO – The full-back set up Sunderland’s opening two goals and looks a cut above League One level.
