DURHAM is hosting a major event showing innovative energy projects.

Energy experts from across Europe are heading to the city to showcase energy projects.

It starts on Wednesday, September 5, when Durham County Council chairman John Lethbridge will officially welcome European partners for the Interreg Europe funded programme REBUS (Renovation for Energy Efficient Buildings).

Partners from Italy, Sweden, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Region of Crete and Germany will be taking part in the two-day event.

Rich Hurst, REBUS project manager, said: “This event is a great opportunity for us and our local stakeholders to share experiences and learn from others so that we can continue to improve services across the county.”

This will take place at the Durham Energy Institute (DEI), where the council will be highlighting projects including its proposal to use mine-water to heat buildings and its innovative approach to installing solid wall insulation on homes.

Maggie Bosanquet, the council’s team leader for the Low Carbon Economy Team, added: “We are delighted to be hosting more European visitors to our fabulous city and to have the opportunity to share the great work that we are doing with our partners and to learn from them in exchange.”

The event also includes a presentation from the council and a tour of Durham Energy Institute, at the Palatine Centre, Durham University.

Among those attending are Durham Community Action, Voluntary Organisations North East and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
