FANS of a top restaurant have helped raise hundreds of pounds for foodbanks in North Yorkshire.

The Wensleydale Heifer at West Witton, near Leyburn, has been encouraging people to join up for its daily feature on Instagram which stars top dishes of the day from their kitchen. For every new follower they pledged to donate £1 of food up to the value of £500.

Restaurant owner David Moss and his six-year-old daughter Thia delivered on the promise, handing over donations to the Storehouse foodbank at the Influence Church in Richmond and Hambleton FoodShare in Northallerton.

Mr Moss said: “We’re aware we’re incredibly lucky and wanted to support these great community projects to help whose who may be in crisis or need some additional support.”

Suz Gregory, of Influence Church, said: “Rural poverty can be hidden and often people come to us in crisis. Donations such as those from The Wensleydale Heifer are incredibly important in helping us to continue to meet the needs of the people of Richmondshire."
