Bradford PA 1 Spennymoor Town 0.

Spennymoor are still without a win in four league games after going down to a first half goal at the Horsfall Stadium tonight.

But Moors came away wondering how they didn’t pick up a point in a purple patch at the start of the second half, when Bradford keeper Steven Drench pulled off some excellent saves.

Moors had the first chance of the game when a poor pass by Bradford’s Jake Beesley went straight to Shane Henry, who ran forward but fired a few yards wide from 25 yards, then Mark Anderson, who has scored twice already this season, fired straight at Bradford keeper Steven Drench.

But Bradford hit back, and went close when Ben McKenna crossed from the right for Beesley to turn the ball wide, and then they took the lead on 26 minutes when Oli Johnson found space on the left and put the ball into the box where McKenna beat Jonathan Gould in the Spennymoor goal.

It was almost 2-0 a few minutes later, when Conor Branson hit a good shot from the edge of the box, but Gould managed to turn the ball around the post.

Moors had a goal disallowed for offside just before half time when former BPA striker Adam Boyes scored off a Glen Taylor flick.

Moors had some great chances at the start of the second half. Boyes and Rob Ramshaw fired straight at Drench from good positions, then Anderson couldn’t get a good connection on the ball six yards out after Boyes had nodded the ball down to him.

Drench then pulled off two saves in quick succession to keep his team in front. Shane Henry put Taylor through but the keeper tipped his shot over the top, and from the following corner, the keeper somehow managed to stop Rob Atkinson’s header.

Moors had a penalty shout turned down when Taylor went down under a challenge from Shane Killock, but Jamie Spencer caused a scare at the other end when he broke away and fired into the side netting.

As Moors pressed forward, they left themselves open at the back, and Bradford broke away again when McKenna got through, but his effort hit the post.

And the woodwork rescued Moors again a few minutes later, this time Branson hit the post from the edge of the box.

Sub Jake Hibbs almost grabbed a late point, but his well-hit shot was saved by Drench.
