TEAMS at Darlington’s libraries have been working hard to ensure youngsters maintain their love of reading throughout the summer holidays.

A series of events and challenges have been running at Cockerton and Crown Street libraries since schools broke up in July, from Saturday story clubs to the annual Summer Challenge.

Children have been encouraged to visit the library and take part in sessions such as the Mischief Makers Mystery event held last week, which saw participants solve clues and enjoy workshops with illustrator Liz Million and Scrap Art’s Yvonne Preston.

The event was based on the theme of this year’s reading challenge, which invites young people to collect stickers for every library book they read throughout the summer.

Those who complete the challenge are entered into a draw to win a school disco.

Suzy Hill said: “Our events programme and summer challenge is getting a brilliant response, we are half-way through now and want to say congratulations to all of the children who have already completed the reading challenge."
