REAL ale lovers in the region are toasting a North-East brewery’s success at the Great British Beer Festival.
Mordue Brewery’s much-loved favourite 4.5-per cent alcohol-by-volume (ABV) Workie Ticket was voted as the top Best Bitter and won the overall bronze in the Campaign for Real Ale’s prestigious Champion Beer of Britain award, from the 1,000 brews on offer at the festival, at Olympia in London.
Siren Brewery, in Berkshire, took the Champion Beer gold for Broken Dream Breakfast Stout (6.5pc ABV).
Mordue managing director Garry Fawson, said: “We won the Champion Beer of Britain award 21 years ago, so it’s fantastic to be back in the running this year.
“As a bitter, Workie Ticket isn’t the most fashionable of beers, with everything moving towards being pale, hoppy or cloudy, so we’re especially pleased it has made such a comeback.”
