THE reason behind a woman’s drowning while scuba diving in the Greek islands remains a mystery.
Jacqueline Hilton 50, of Rock Crest, Lealholm, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, had been on holiday when the tragedy happened in June 2016.
North Yorkshire Coroner, Michael Oakley, said at her inquest at Scarborough Town Hall that although a postmortem confirmed that Mrs Hilton had drowned, it was unclear why it had happened.
The inquest heard that Mrs Hilton had been diving with a qualified instructor and had signalled for them to resurface during the dive.
Her husband, Graham, said his wife had previously dived in the Maldives and the Mediterranean.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, Mr Oakley said: “What happened, we don’t know.”
