Assault appeal

POLICE are appealing for information about an assault in Stokesley. It happened in the Allen Grove area at around 5.45pm on August 5 and involved a man and a woman who are believed to be known to each other. Officers are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and believe there were people in the area at the time who will be able to assist with the investigation. Anyone who can help the police should call 101.

Arts show

A FINAL exhibition of prints and pots by Alison Britton is running at Rural Arts in Thirsk until Friday, August 17. The artworks have been inspired by places such as Lake Gormire, Garbutt Wood and Sutton Bank. Entry is free and the exhibition is open daily between 10am and 4pm.

Church project

A THOUSAND-year-old church is marking the completion of the first phase of a major makeover with an open day on August 25. St Andrew’s Church, in Middleton, near Pickering, has undergone an intensive refurbishment over the past 12 months, thanks to Heritage Lottery funding of almost £200,000. A further £20,000 was raised from local grants and donations.

Flea market

A COLLECTORS fair and flea market is being held at the town hall in Masham on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27, from 10am to 4pm. The event, in aid of Grewelthorpe Church, will include refreshments. Admission is 50p for adults, free for children. To book a stall contact Gillian on 01765-650229.

Stage course

A THREE-day day creative course in acting, singing and dancing for children aged seven to 16 is running at The Garden Rooms at Tennants, Leyburn, this week.
