A YOUNG man has “lost everything” after being found in the backseat of a car after using cocaine.

Shane Doe, 20, was questioned by a police officer who noticed a car parked in a layby in New Brancepeth, Durham, in the early hours of May 2.

He told the officer he had been out walking with a friend in the area near Pitt Lane and had taken class A drugs a few hours earlier.

Joanne Hesse, prosecuting in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court earlier this week, said: “He was interviewed and stated he had parked up and was going to smoke cannabis to relax before going home.

“He had used cocaine two to three hours beforehand and thought he’d be okay.”

Doe, of Felton Close, Newton Aycliffe, provided a positive drug test and was charged with two counts of being in charge of a vehicle while on drugs.

His solicitor stated Doe has lost his employment and was forced to move back in with his mother following his arrest.

She said: “He had an apprenticeship with Nissan who were also funding him to go to Gateshead College. Mr Doe told Nissan about his situation and that funding and his apprenticeship has stopped."

Magistrates decided against disqualifying Doe from driving in the hope he finds future work, but imposed ten points on his licence and fined him £80.
