A MAN is recovering in hospital after being stabbed.

Police were called to a report of an altercation on Stevenage Close, Thornaby, at about 3.10pm yesterday, Thursday.

A spokeswoman said: "A 25-year-old man suffered a puncture wound to his upper torso and he was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

"His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Inquiries are ongoing today."

The Great North Air Ambulance landed on a field close to Baysdale Road and crime scene investigators were later seen on Stevenage Close.
