ORGANISATIONS doing their best to generate clean energy could be in line for an award.

Darlington’s Green Party is currently seeking nominations for the Clean British Energy awards.

They hope to recognise and reward companies that are doing what they can to cut down on their consumption of electricity and those who are generating their own.

Previous CBE winners include Acorn Dairy, which installed a wind turbine to replace a diesel generator and the Middleton Hall Retirement Village for ensuring their range of retirement bungalows are “super-insulated and low-energy”.

The Federation of Abbey Schools also received an award for installing photovoltaic panels on the roof of their school hall.

Matthew Snedker, who helps to organise the awards, said: ““I regularly see

organisations making strategic decisions to move towards renewable energy. The financial case for getting off fossil fuels has never been stronger and we are very keen to showcase the very best examples of sustainable forward thinking.”

For an application form, email darlingtonfoe@gmail.com. The deadline for nominations is Saturday, September 1.

Anyone interested in joining the Green Party can attend their next meeting at the Quaker House in Darlington from 7pm on August 13.
