A MAN accused of murdering a mother-of-three made his first appearance before a judge this morning.

Torbjorn Kettlewell, of Oval Grange, Hartlepool, appeared at Teesside Crown Court via a live video-link from Durham Prison.

The 30-year-old is alleged to have killed Kelly Franklin, 29, on the town's Oxford Road on Friday night.

He also faces a charge of possession of a bladed article - a kitchen knife - at the same time.

Judge Stephen Ashurst was told by his barrister, Duncan McReddie, that a potential trial could last five days.

Ms Franklin's heartbroken family have this week paid tribute to a "loving, caring, beautiful young mother".

In a statement released by Cleveland Police, they say her three children were her "most treasured things" and they are all in "complete shock".

Her family also thanked those who battled top save her - police, medics and locals who rushed to the aid of the woman when they heard cries for help.

Mr Kettlewell was remanded in custody and will next appear in court on September 4 when he will be asked to enter pleas to the charges he faces.

  •  A 48-year-old woman also arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on conditional bail while police continue inquiries.
