Raider hunted

POLICE are appealing for information after a break-in at a builders merchant in Northallerton. The Jewson’s branch was targeted at around 11pm on Monday night and a man believed to be aged in his late 40s or early 50s was seen fleeing the scene in a white Audi. If anyone has any information about the crime or saw any suspicious activity in the area they should contact police on 101.

Baler blaze

FIRE crews from Northallerton and Thirsk attended a baler on fire in a stubble field at Ellerbeck at 2pm on Monday which also set alight about 200sq metres of the field. They used four hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire which caused extensive fire damage to the baler.

Polling review

RESIDENTS of Colburn, Gayles and Richmond are being urged to have their say on a review of polling arrangements for the parishes. Richmondshire District Council is currently inviting comments from people in the area, or local constituency political parties on whether they would support the proposed polling arrangements for 2019 outlined on the council’s website at richmondshire.gov.uk.

Combine fire

A HYDRAULIC fault on a combine harvester led to a fire which spread to a field of standing and cut corn of about two acres at Newbridge, Pickering, at about 6.30pm on Monday. Crews from Pickering, Malton and Kirkbymoorside attended and used two hose reel jets, two triple extension ladders, two thermal imaging cameras, small gear and beaters.

Talking mag

RYEDALE’S Talking Magazine has been given a sound boost with a donation from Ryedale Lions Club to help improve the quality of their monthly recordings. The £500 gift has bought a new computer to edit and produce the Talking Magazine’s spoken CDs for blind and partially-sighted listeners.
