HUNDREDS of hardy men and women have braved the bracing North Sea before swapping their wet suits for running shoes to complete a cycle and sprint finish.
A turn in the weather over the weekend saw competitors battling with cool and wet conditions for the Redcar Sprint Triathlon, comprising a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.
Michelle Dillion, who represented Great Britain in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, was the first woman over the line in a time of one hour and nine minutes.
She said: “I’m training for the world championships on the Gold Coast so thought I’d just get a really good head on and go hard and see what I could do.
“I surprised myself with the win, I’m really happy about that.”
Benjamin Goodall led the men’s race from the start, finishing in one hour and one minute.
