ARE you ready to take the next step towards your future? Do you know what you want to do now that you’ve finished school? New College Durham offers lots of choice and opportunity for further education, whether it’s vocational, A-Levels or apprenticeships.

Whether you know exactly which path you want to take towards your career, or if you need independent advice and guidance, the team at the College are available throughout the summer to help you make the right decision.

Call in any weekday during the summer between 10am and 4pm (6.30pm on Tuesdays), and speak to someone with the expertise in helping you to find your direction. The experienced and knowledgeable team will help you to make the right decision about what form of study is best for your future work life, or even help you find out if you qualify for a free bus pass if the cost of travel is a concern.

You might already have a good idea of what you want to do, so a vocational course is practical and is related to a specific career, rather than an academic subject. It will give you the skills and knowledge you need for employment.

A-Level students are often planning on going on to university to further study a specific subject, while those looking for apprenticeships want to be in work, learning on-the-job, while incorporating day-release at college to gain the relevant qualifications.

All these options are possible through New College Durham – it’s just about finding the right fit for your future plans.

Further Education is not like being at school. You’ll find that you are treated more like an adult, and that you will have more independence to make your own decisions, although there is always someone to speak to if you need to.

There is so much choice for students and if you find you’ve chosen the wrong path, there’s the chance to switch routes.

You’ll be meeting new people and doing new things. There are many extra-curricular activities to get involved in, with the Students’ Union supporting activities, societies and development opportunities for students, including the opportunity to get involved in a range of college activities and voluntary work. The student voice is very important at New College Durham.

The campus is a lot less formal than school buildings, with a food court and Sports Café, a fully-equipped gym which houses all the latest cardio and weight machines, a hair and beauty salon offering everything from haircuts to fake tans, and retail outlets on site, such as Starbucks and Costa, when only a shot of coffee will do!

The College doors are open all summer, so, whether you know what course you want to follow and are ready to enrol, or if you are unsure and need to speak to the curriculum team, drop in for a chat – no need to make an appointment.
