THOUSANDS turned out for a family fun day with Durham biker cops yesterday.

That’s as Durham Constabulary’s annual BikeWise event was held at the force’s headquarters at Aykley Heads, in Durham.

Stunt rider Dave Coates and the 3SIXTY bicycle stunt team wowed spectators with jaw-dropping performances while Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness and the Dick Shepherd motorcycle collection were on display with the original Triumph TR6 Trophy motorcycle used in the Steve McQueen film The Great Escape.

Some of the force’s police dogs performed a special show with popular PD Kaizer saying his final goodbye as he prepares to retire after seven years of loyal service.

Families also enjoyed meeting stars of the channel 5 show Police Interceptors as well as live music, police helicopter, Mini Police and the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Chief Inspector and Silver Command for the event, Catherine Clarke, said about 15,000 people had attended the “fantastic event”.

Organisers Sergeant Iain Rodgers, who has ridden at Bikewise since 2007, and PC Iain Tribick, also appeared for the last time.

Sgt Rodgers said: “It’s been an absolutely fantastic day and really positive.”
