HUNDREDS of runners added a splash of colour to their Saturday morning exercise by taking part in a fun run.

The Hartlepool and District Hospice annual Colour Run in aid of Alice House Hospice took place at Seaton Carew this weekend, as the area became covered in blue and orange paint.

More than 200 runners, including families and children, ran the 5km route while being pelted with paint powder bombs.

Last year’s event saw fundraisers bring in £10,000 for the hospice, which provides comfort to people, and their families with life-limiting illnesses, and this year’s efforts are set to generate a similar amount.

A spokesperson for the event said: "It has been a brilliant event once again and everyone has enjoyed it.

“We’re expecting to raise in the region of £10,000 again once everyone has sent their sponsorships in.

"Thanks to all those who use the promenade for accommodating us - the bits of powdered paint that are left should be taken away by the weather, it’s environmentally safe and doesn’t stain."
